Job Description Summary:
The Market Safety and Security Manager leads the execution of the company’s safety strategy at the market level, implementing corporate programs and developing local programs into practical, clearly defined processes and actions that protect associates and prevent workplace injuries. This role partners with operations, sales, HR, and other market and function leaders to drive strong safety practices and culture through proactive risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.
Serving as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, the Safety and Security Manager oversees injury and incident prevention, incident response and investigations, OSHA & DOT compliance, training, and emergency preparedness across warehouse, delivery, sales, and merchandising functions. This position is accountable for measurable improvement in market safety key performance indicators. Success in this role requires strong influence, operational partnership, and a hands-on approach, to sustaining safe, efficient, and compliant environments.
Job Description:
Job Responsibilities:
Lead and Facilitate Injury and Incident Prevention Programs
Coordinate and support monthly safety committee meetings
Coach committee members and people leaders on safety leadership, best practices, and regulatory responsibilities
Develop, implement, and reinforce standard safety and security policies and procedures
Facilitate incident reviews, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning
Ensure accurate documentation of all security and safety-related incidents and follow-up actions
Conduct regular on-site and off-site safety and security walks and observations to proactively identify risks
Train and empower operations and sales leaders to serve as effective safety and security champions
Conduct and monitor weekly warehouse and driver safety observations to proactively identify unsafe acts and conditions
Incident Management (Accidents, Injuries, Near Misses)
Coach Supervisors to lead and facilitate incident investigations, ensuring thorough evidence gathering and root cause analysis
Coordinate timely internal and external reporting for all safety incidents and near misses
Collaborate with operations leaders to investigate and address vehicle-related incidents involving bodily harm
Collaborate with operations leaders to implement corrective and preventive measures to reduce incident recurrence
Partner with workers’ compensation insurers, HR, Legal, and Operations to determine work-relatedness, minimize claim impact, and support return-to-work efforts
Facilitate monthly market leadership incident reviews to align on trends, return to work plans, and improvement opportunities
Lead and Facilitate Security and Loss Prevention initiatives
Partnering with Operations and Sales Managers, Human Resources, etc.
Oversee and maintain security systems, including cameras, alarms, access control systems and badging.
Manage relationships and performance of onsite security vendors to ensure effective operations.
Oversee security protocols, policies, and procedures to protect staff, property, and assets.
Collaborate with local management and stakeholders to resolve security concerns effectively.
Delegate secondary Security on-site for back-up (Warehouse Manager or Executive Admin to assist)
Regulatory Compliance (OSHA, DOT, EPA)
Lead implementation and ongoing management of OSHA compliance programs, including required training and inspections
Ensure readiness for regulatory audits, investigations, and emergency response activities
Maintain accurate OSHA 300/300A logs in partnership with HR and third-party providers
Monitor training completion and partner with leaders to address compliance gaps
Collaborate with transportation and HR teams to ensure DOT compliance (training, documentation, reporting)
Coordinate EPA compliance efforts by working with internal and external subject matter experts
Communication & Presentation –
Develop and deliver clear, consistent EHS communications, training materials, and awareness campaigns
Align safety and security messaging with operational priorities to strengthen engagement and ownership
Present key safety metrics, trends, and initiatives to cross-functional teams and leadership
Promote a culture of safety through visible leadership communication and reinforcement
Other duties, as assigned by the jobholder’s supervisor, may also be required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates and/or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Health or related field and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 5 years of safety experience in an industrial, warehouse, or wholesale/distribution environment
This role is fully onsite and requires in-market presence. It is not a hybrid position.
Demonstrated success implementing OSHA-compliant injury prevention programs in similar operational settings
Proficient PC skills using MS Office and other various computer programs including presentation software
Must be a results-oriented professional with verbal/written communication skills using diplomacy and discretion as well as customer service skills
Proven ability to lead through a matrix structure and operationalize safety, health, and environmental programs
Ability to multi-task, work independently and/or within a team, pay attention to detail and meet deadlines
Analytic and Reporting skills
Utilize sound judgement and problem-solving skills
Ability to work in fast-paced, high-volume, team environment
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience implementing musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) prevention strategies
Background in managing safety for driving and delivery operations, including offsite/mobile workers
Familiarity with behavior-based safety systems and employee engagement programs
Experience developing or supporting driver safety, defensive driving, and/or DOT compliance initiatives
Professional certifications such as OSHA 30, ASP (Associate Safety Professional), or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) are strongly preferred
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone
Occasional carrying, overhead reaching and lifting of 15 pounds to perform various duties
Occasional immediate reaching to perform various office duties
