Do you want to join a global leader in renewable energy infrastructure? If so, CIP Mexico is currently looking for a Contract Manager to join our team in Mexico City.
Team
The Contract Manager will join CIP’s Mexico platform at a pivotal moment. CIP is advancing private investment in Mexico’s energy transition, delivering its first two utility-scale solar power plants together with a battery energy storage system, with further large-scale investment under active development. The role sits at the center of CIP Mexico’s project delivery function, working in close partnership with the EPC, Commercial and Development Directors, to safeguard CIP’s contractual positions.
Role
The Contract Manager will Protect CIP's contractual position from contract execution through closeout, across development, construction and operations agreements, by administering executed contracts, safeguarding entitlements, and ensuring contractual obligations are complied with on both sides. Serve as the custodian of contract terms, precedent positions and legal reference points that underpin CIP's entitlement and risk decisions.
Ahead of execution, review near-final contract drafts for administrability - notice mechanics, time-bar provisions and conditions-precedent lists - to ensure new contracts can be properly administered once signed; this does not extend to leading contract structuring or negotiation.
The position is based primarily in Mexico City.
Responsibilities will consist of but are not limited to:
Pre-execution review
Review near-final contract drafts for administrability ahead of execution — notice mechanics, time-bar. provisions, conditions-precedent lists — flagging gaps before signature
Onboarding at execution
Manage the handover of each executed contract from the development phase, ensuring no obligations, precedent positions or open items are lost in transition
Verify that all conditions precedent to effectiveness — securities, insurance certificates, permits and other CPs — are satisfied before the contract becomes effective
Establish the obligations register, critical-date/time-bar calendar and notice protocol for each contract at handover
Coordinate onboarding requirements with the Project Manager and PMO, including kick-off alignment where relevant
Administration
Contract administration
Administer land rights, interconnection, offtake/PPA, EPC, O&M, insurance, supply and advisory contracts, ensuring notices, deliverables, approvals, securities and warranties are tracked and complied with on both sides, within delegated authority
Maintain the master contract register and critical-date/time-bar calendar across all active agreements, in coordination with PMO's obligation tracker
Review and issue formal contractual correspondence, within delegated authority for notices and variation instructions, ensuring positions are consistent, evidenced and aligned with legal counsel
Correspondence discipline
Ensure all formal positions are consistent, evidenced, and won't undermine a future claim or defense
Claims, variations & disputes
Support the Project Manager and PMO in evaluating contractual entitlement for claims and variations, testing factual positions against the contract terms
Draft and issue formal claim notifications and variation instructions, within delegated authority, ensuring compliance with notice periods and time-bar requirements
Provide entitlement analysis, and brief and critically challenge external delay/quantum experts, to inform the Project Manager's negotiation strategy and decision-making
Review EPC contractor, supplier and vendor claims and counter-positions, flagging weaknesses or exposure in CIP's contractual stance before responses are issued
Maintain the legal/contractual reference framework (precedent positions, clause interpretations, dispute history) that PMO's claims log and Project Manager decisions draw on
Identify contractual risk early through correspondence and contract-compliance review, flagging deviations that could mature into disputes, and escalate where a dispute requires negotiation
Coordinate with external legal counsel on dispute avoidance, adjudication, arbitration or litigation matters, acting as the primary internal point of contact and record-holder for legal proceedings
Ensure lessons learned from claims and disputes feed back into future contract drafting and negotiation standards
Closeout
Support contract close-out, including final account settlement, release of securities and completion certification
Confirm final requirements compliance and completion certification across all contract types at closeout
You
The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree in law, quantity surveying, engineering or a commercial discipline, with a contracts/claims-focused postgraduate qualification an advantage. You bring 5–8+ years in contract administration or commercial/legal management on major EPC, power, renewable-energy or infrastructure projects, with solid working knowledge of international EPC contract frameworks and Mexican contract law as it applies to construction/energy projects. You have demonstrated experience administering contracts from execution through closeout, including claims and variations to resolution, and are familiar with owner-side contract structures, lender requirements and audit/documentation standards.
We look for the following in the candidate:
High attention to detail and rigor in record-keeping and evidence management
Solid contract drafting and correspondence skills across administration from execution through closeout
Able to brief and critically question external delay/quantum experts, and to assess the quality of their analysis to inform entitlement positions
Commercially disciplined, with professional approach around notices, time-bars, claims and conditions precedent
Ability to navigate complex, multi-stakeholder contract structures across all contract types and project phases
Fluent in Spanish and English, with clear, concise written communication
