The Opportunity
JBT Marel is looking for a Technical Writer. You will be responsible for writing, revising, illustrating, and editing a variety of electronic technical information for customer documentation, which includes installation, operation, sanitation, and maintenance manuals as well as various technical presentations for training or customer knowledge. Combine and present complex, technical information into comprehensive, well-organized, and easy-to-understand documentation, manuals, and online help documentation. Writes and consults with Subject Matter Expert (SME) to ensure content, style, and format. Ensures that each content page(s) and product(s) are prepared according to specifications. Coordinates with engineers, content producers, and other contributors to produce PDF’s, Wiki’s, and SharePoint sites to ensure consistency in style, tone, and quality. Maintains electronic records for legal and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
Create content using the Adobe Creative Cloud (ACC), and other authoring tools to produce deliverables in various print and online formats, including Microsoft Office and PDF. Adhere to version control policies.
Write/update, illustrate, and edit customer manuals and technical documentation, for instance, BOM’s, installation guidelines, equipment set up procedures, etc. Manage translation of User Manuals and Operations Guides.
Requires collaboration with Subject Matter Experts requiring strong communication, organization, and detail. 60%,
Update/edit template manuals as a part of our manual’s maintenance. Coordinate with Subject Matter Experts to review, update, improve content, and keep record of the manual’s revisions. 20%
Collaborate, learn, document, and integrate changes required per Hazard Assessments. 10%
Plan, learn, coordinate, develop, validate content of new product manuals. 5%
Update departmental publication standards and maintain procedural documents. 5%
Education, Knowledge, and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required, with a focus on written communication, e.g. Technical Communication, Journalism, Computer Science, Graphic Design, Content Management.
Fluent English
3+ years’ writing experience, particularly documenting industrial equipment.
Should have a general working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical engineering concepts.
Basic knowledge: Familiarity with CAD software and exposure to the food processing industry is also a plus. Sufficient familiarity with the subject to know basic principles and terminology and to understand and solve problems.
General/Practical knowledge: Successfully completes diverse tasks of the job; applies and enhances knowledge and skill in normal situations; needs minimal guidance in addressing unusual situations. Performs without assistance; recognized as a resource to others; able to translate complex nuances to others; provides feedback to improve processes; focus on broad issues. Responsible for developing and maintaining standard work for publications, bulletins, and more.
Advanced knowledge: Position requires expertise in using content authoring and graphics software, for example Adobe Creative Cloud (ACC) and/or HTML5, or similar content authoring and publishing software. Viewed as an expert in technical content creation and written communications: manuals, bulletins, design guidelines, training material, technical drawing reading, etc. Skilled in understanding technical information and communicating it clearly through written documentation.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
Frequent use of computer and engineering software
Ability to walk through manufacturing areas regularly
Works primarily with computers in an office environment; some interaction with the equipment in the plant or tech center; some exposure to the shop floor and the technical lab, as well as occasional visits to food processing plants, requiring PPE (safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, ear plugs).
Ability to: Lift up to 25–30 lbs occasionally
Visual ability to: Review detailed drawings and technical data
Manual dexterity for: Operating computer and handling mechanical components
Travel & Location
This is an Onsite role with up to 10% - 20% Travel.
