The role

Who we are

Moniepoint is an all-in-one digital financial services platform powering businesses across emerging markets. Since 2019, our technology has enabled over one million businesses to thrive through comprehensive payment, banking, credit, and business management solutions. Operating through its subsidiaries—including Moniepoint MFB and TeamApt Ltd—Moniepoint processes the majority of Nigeria's POS transactions, representing over $170 billion in annualised Total Payment Volume (TPV). Recognised as Africa’s second-fastest-growing fintech platform and named the Most Inclusive Payment Platform by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in 2022, Moniepoint continues to scale its profitable financial ecosystem.

About this role

The Senior Data Governance, Policy & Control Specialist is responsible for driving enterprise-wide data governance initiatives, policy management, audit coordination, and control enforcement across the Bank. The role ensures that data management practices align with regulatory requirements, internal standards, and the Bank's risk appetite.

What you will get to do

Policy & Framework Management: Lead the drafting, review, implementation, and periodic renewal of data governance policies, standards, frameworks, and procedures. Design and maintain the overarching data governance framework and own the full policy lifecycle. Ensure policies align with regulatory requirements, translate them into actionable governance policy language, and conduct policy gap analysis to recommend improvements.

Governance & Implementation Oversight: Oversee the enterprise-wide implementation of data governance initiatives and monitor compliance with established data governance standards, controls, and regulatory requirements.

Audit & Compliance Coordination: Coordinate and manage internal and external audits relating to the Enterprise Data Office.

Data Stewardship Program: Implement the enterprise data stewardship program, defining and operationalising data ownership across domains.

Controls & Compliance Monitoring: Design and implement data governance controls to monitor policy compliance across business units. Conduct periodic control testing, self-assessments, and gap analyses. Maintain the data governance risk and issue register, ensuring timely escalation and remediation of control failures, and support audits by providing evidence of governance controls.

Data Culture & Enablement: Design and deliver data governance training, awareness campaigns, and onboarding materials to build data literacy. Embed governance practices into everyday business and technical workflows, act as a trusted advisor to business units, and champion data governance value internally.

Experience & Background

Bachelor's degree in Business, Law, Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field.

5+ years of experience in data governance, risk, compliance, or policy/controls roles.

Experience in a regulated industry (financial services, healthcare, insurance, telecom, etc.).

Prior experience running change management, training programs, or culture-building initiatives.

Working knowledge of data governance frameworks (e.g., DCAM, DAMA-DMBOK, COBIT) and relevant regulations (GDPR, NDPA).

Deep familiarity with modern data architectures (Medallion, Data Mesh, Data Vault 2.0) and implementing governance within distributed environments.

Skills & Competencies

Demonstrated experience drafting and maintaining policies, standards, and control frameworks.

Experience designing or executing controls testing, risk assessments, or compliance monitoring.

Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, enforceable policy documentation.

Excellent stakeholder management and training/facilitation skills, with the ability to influence without direct authority.

Professional certification such as DCAM, CDMP, DGSP, CIPP, or equivalent.

Experience with GRC (governance, risk & compliance) tooling or policy management platforms.

Familiarity with data quality, metadata, and lineage disciplines and how they connect to policy and controls.

What success looks like in this role

Data management practices are fully aligned with regulatory requirements, internal standards, and the Bank's risk appetite.

Data governance policies, standards, and controls are consistently adopted and seamlessly embedded into everyday business and technical workflows.

The data governance risk and issue register is maintained proactively, with internal and external audits coordinated smoothly and control failures remediated promptly.

A strong enterprise-wide data culture is built, characterised by high data literacy and strong organisational buy-in for governance initiatives.
