Overhaul & Repair Team Leader
Location: Knowsley, with extensive UK travel and occasional overseas requirements
Are you an experienced engine overhaul professional with strong leadership skills and a passion for delivering high-quality technical work? Clarke Energy is looking for an Overhaul & Repair Team Leader to join our specialist Overhaul & Repair team, leading engineers through major overhauls, repairs and refurbishment projects on Jenbacher gas engines.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically capable leader who enjoys developing people, maintaining high standards and ensuring critical engine overhaul projects are delivered safely, on time and to specification.
About the Role
As an Overhaul & Repair Team Leader, you will be responsible for leading and supervising a team of Overhaul & Repair Engineers working both within our Knowsley Overhaul & Repair Centre and at customer sites across the UK.
You will provide technical leadership throughout engine overhaul and repair projects, ensuring work is completed to the highest standards of quality, safety and efficiency. Acting as the key point of contact for customers, internal stakeholders and project teams, you will play a vital role in delivering successful overhaul projects and maintaining Clarke Energy's reputation for technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Engine Overhaul & Technical Leadership
Lead and supervise the overhaul, repair, refurbishment and decoking of Jenbacher gas engines
Provide technical guidance and support to engineers throughout overhaul activities
Make informed decisions regarding technical issues and approved variations to scope of work
Carry out technical evaluations and identify opportunities to improve project delivery and outcomes
Ensure all overhaul and repair work is completed to the required quality standards, within scope and to agreed timescales
Support hands-on overhaul activities where required and contribute to successful project delivery
Leadership & Team Management
Lead, motivate and support a team of Overhaul & Repair Engineers
Monitor individual and team performance, providing coaching, guidance and constructive feedback
Conduct objective setting, performance reviews and development discussions
Identify training and development requirements and provide recommendations to the Overhaul & Repair Manager
Promote a positive, collaborative and high-performing team environment
Provide first-stage leadership support and guidance on employee matters in conjunction with management and HR
Customer & Stakeholder Management
Act as the primary point of contact for customers during overhaul and repair activities
Build and maintain positive relationships with customer representatives and site personnel
Liaise closely with Clarke Energy Area Managers regarding project activities within their regions
Provide regular progress updates to the Overhaul & Repair Manager and, where applicable, the Overhaul Project Manager
Ensure clear communication of project status, risks, lessons learned and completion outcomes
Health, Safety & Environment
Ensure full compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures
Promote safe working practices across all overhaul activities
Deliver toolbox talks and safety briefings to team members
Ensure compliance with both Clarke Energy and customer-specific site regulations
Maintain high standards of housekeeping, safety awareness and workshop discipline
Planning & Materials Management
Coordinate with the Parts team to ensure required materials and components are available when needed
Monitor overhaul progress against agreed schedules and labour budgets
Support effective management of scope changes and additional work requirements
Ensure accurate completion of project documentation, reports and records
What We're Looking For
Technical Skills
Strong technical understanding of reciprocating gas engines and power generation equipment
Proven experience carrying out major engine overhauls and repairs
Strong knowledge of Jenbacher engine overhaul activities
Ability to diagnose technical issues and provide practical engineering solutions
Good understanding of health, safety and quality requirements within an engineering environment

Qualifications & Experience
Essential
Extensive experience working on reciprocating gas engines and generating equipment
Proven experience leading or supervising engineering teams
Strong verbal and written English communication skills
Full UK driving licence (Category B)
Experience delivering engine overhaul or repair projects safely and successfully
Desirable
Strong knowledge and experience of Jenbacher engine overhauls
Previous experience within a workshop, overhaul or service engineering environment
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Understanding of Jenbacher and Clarke Energy P&IDs
Experience acting as the lead engineer on customer-facing projects
