This is a direct-hire, 32-hour-per-week hybrid position with three days onsite in Manhattan and one remote workday each week. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Financial Manager will oversee the organization’s day-to-day financial operations while supporting its long-term financial health, compliance, and sustainability. This hands-on role encompasses nonprofit accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, payroll oversight, restricted fund accounting, and audit and tax support while providing oversight to accounting support staff. RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee day-to-day nonprofit accounting and bookkeeping operations, including the chart of accounts, accounts payable, journal entries, revenue and expense tracking, cash management, bank and investment reconciliations, restricted funds, deferrals, and accurate financial recordkeeping. Lead the monthly close and financial reporting process , preparing financial statements, cash flow projections, functional expense allocations, restricted and unrestricted reporting, budget-to-actual analysis, and financial commentary for organizational leadership. Partner with senior leadership on annual budgets, organizational allocations, special-project budgets, forecasts, and long-term projections; monitor performance, identify variances and financial risks, and recommend cost-saving opportunities. Maintain effective internal controls, financial procedures, reimbursement processes, and nonprofit accounting standards while overseeing higher-level reconciliations, contract review, and financial compliance. Oversee payroll and related administrative functions, including employee onboarding, benefits and retirement enrollment, biweekly payroll review, PTO and garnishment tracking, documentation, and coordination with the organization’s payroll provider. Provide oversight to accounting support staff and serve as the primary financial liaison with external accountants and auditors, coordinating audit and tax documentation, required reporting, and special financial projects. QUALIFICATIONS: Strong hands-on experience with nonprofit accounting and financial management , including GAAP, restricted fund accounting, financial statements, functional expense allocations, budgeting, forecasting, and month-end close. Demonstrated ability to independently manage core accounting functions, including bookkeeping, accounts payable, reconciliations, payroll oversight, cash management, financial reporting, and internal controls. Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to develop and modify financial reports that support leadership decision-making. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to independently manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with senior leadership, staff, organizational stakeholders, and external accounting and audit partners.
