Senior Commercial Solicitor
Commercial contracts expertise. Practical commercial lease experience. A real opportunity to help shape a growing firm.
Some solicitors want more than a well-established caseload and the same way of working year after year.
They want interesting work, strong client relationships, real ownership and the freedom to contribute to the business around them.
If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
At Jamieson Law, we advise ambitious businesses through every stage of their journey. Whether they're negotiating key commercial contracts, taking on new premises, buying or selling a business, bringing in investors or preparing for growth, we're the legal team they trust to help them move forward with confidence.
We're a modern, entrepreneurial law firm that combines high-quality legal advice with commercial thinking, responsiveness and great client relationships. We believe in clear advice, finding better ways to work and building a business that is a great place for both our clients and our team.
As we continue to grow, we're looking for an experienced Senior Commercial Solicitor to join our commercial team. Alongside strong commercial contracts experience, you'll need meaningful, hands-on experience of commercial lease matters in England, with the confidence to manage those matters independently.
Why Jamieson Law?
We're building something different.
We've grown quickly, and we're now strengthening our team and developing the support we offer our business clients. This is an opportunity to play an important role in that next stage.
You'll have responsibility for your own matters and client relationships, alongside the support of colleagues who share your commitment to doing good work.
That means you'll:
Take ownership of a varied commercial caseload
Build lasting relationships with business clients and understand how their businesses work
Work closely with our commercial team, founders and wider legal team
Be trusted to exercise your judgement and give practical, commercially focused advice
Have the autonomy to manage your work without unnecessary layers of management
Contribute ideas about how we deliver our services and develop the practice
Be part of a supportive team where people share knowledge and help each other succeed
Have opportunities to broaden your responsibilities as the firm continues to grow
We're fully remote, highly collaborative and embrace technology to help us deliver an exceptional experience for both our clients and our team.
The Role:
You'll sit within our commercial team, with commercial contracts forming the main part of your caseload. You'll also take ownership of English commercial lease matters as they arise, providing continuity for clients who need support with both their business agreements and their premises.
The mix of work will vary with client demand. We need someone who enjoys commercial contracts work and brings enough practical leasing experience to progress lease matters confidently from initial instructions through to completion.
Your responsibilities will include:
Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements, including terms and conditions, services agreements, supply agreements, consultancy agreements and confidentiality agreements
Advising on contractual risks, obligations, liability, termination provisions and practical options for negotiation
Getting to know our clients' businesses so your advice reflects their commercial priorities
Managing English commercial lease matters, including reviewing and negotiating leases and associated documentation
Advising on agreements for lease, renewals, assignments, underleases, variations and licences, as relevant to the matter
Advising on key lease provisions, including breaks, repair obligations, rent reviews, security of tenure and exit arrangements
Handling the due diligence, completion and registration requirements associated with lease matters
Supporting our corporate team with commercial contract and lease aspects of business acquisitions and disposals
Managing scope, fees, deadlines and client expectations throughout each matter
Building strong client relationships and explaining legal issues clearly, with practical recommendations
Sharing knowledge and helping develop our precedents and ways of working
Contributing to business development through client relationships, referrals and opportunities to provide wider support
Awareness of trade marks and wider intellectual property issues would be helpful, particularly when reviewing commercial agreements or identifying when a client may need specialist advice. It isn't essential.
About You:
We're looking for someone who:
Is a qualified solicitor in England & Wales with strong experience advising on commercial contracts (at least 2 years’ PQE)
Is confident drafting and negotiating a range of business-to-business commercial agreements
Has substantive, hands-on experience of English commercial leases, including managing matters through to completion
Can take day-to-day ownership of lease matters, exercising sound judgement and identifying when specialist input is needed
Enjoys working across a varied commercial caseload
Understands the priorities of business owners and gives advice that helps them make decisions
Has strong attention to detail and good commercial judgement
Is confident managing their own priorities and client relationships
Communicates clearly and professionally, without unnecessary legal jargon
Takes ownership and follows matters through to completion
Is comfortable using technology and learning new systems
Enjoys working collaboratively and wants to contribute to an ambitious, growing firm
Your leasing experience may have come from a mixed commercial practice or an earlier role. What matters is that you have personally handled a range of commercial lease matters and can bring that practical experience to the team.
Experience working with SMEs and growth businesses would be particularly valuable.
You don't need an existing client following. We're interested in your ability to deliver excellent work, build trust with clients and contribute to the development of the practice.
The Kind of Role This Can Become:
We're looking for someone who wants to have a meaningful influence on the practice they join.
There is scope for the right person to develop client relationships, mentor colleagues, shape service delivery and take on greater responsibility as the firm grows.
You'll be joining at a stage where your experience and ideas can make a real difference to what we build next.
What We Offer:
Fully remote working
Competitive salary based on experience
Pension
Ongoing training and professional development
A supportive, collaborative team
Real autonomy and responsibility
Varied work with ambitious business clients
The opportunity to help shape and develop a growing practice
Scope for career progression as the firm continues to grow
We're more than just a remote team. We make a real effort to stay connected through team days, meals and UK and overseas trips, because strong relationships with each other matter just as much as strong relationships with our clients.
