Description
If in the USA, applicants MUST reside in Arizona, Idaho, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, or Washington
As a Technical Product Manager, you’ll work closely with engineers and stakeholders to shape and deliver software products that support our hosting platform – Starbase. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives without a playbook. You’ll often start with a loosely defined problem, figure out what matters, and drive it to shipped software with minimal oversight. You’ll bridge the gap between technical implementation and user needs, keeping priorities aligned with company goals even as those goals shift.
What you'll work on:
Take ambiguous business goals and turn them into clear problem statements, product specs, and backlog items
Own features end to end, from discovery through delivery, launch, and iteration, without waiting for direction
Collaborate with engineering to plan technical delivery and make pragmatic scope tradeoffs to ship faster
Write clear user stories, technical acceptance criteria, and implementation-ready documentation
Conduct stakeholder interviews and competitive research, and fill gaps yourself when data or process doesn’t exist yet
Prioritize the roadmap based on impact, feasibility, and data, and make the call when information is incomplete
Monitor product performance and platform health using analytics, logging, and operational metrics
Do whatever it takes to move work forward, whether that’s pulling your own data, mocking up a flow, or unblocking a cross-team dependency
Requirements
What we're looking for:
2–4 years of product management experience, preferably in a technical or infrastructure-heavy environment
Hands-on experience running game servers (e.g., Minecraft, Valheim, ARK, Rust), either professionally or personally, including setup, modding, configuration, and troubleshooting
Deep involvement in user-generated content (UGC) gaming communities such as Minecraft, Roblox, or similar, whether as a player, creator, modder, server owner, or community member
Track record of operating independently and delivering results in fast-moving, loosely structured environments
Comfort making decisions with incomplete information and adjusting quickly as you learn
Experience working directly with engineering teams in Agile/Scrum development cycles
Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills
Ability to interpret technical details, understand system constraints, and make informed tradeoff decisions
Familiarity with modern software development practices, including CI/CD workflows, version control, and release management
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience building or supporting products involving cloud infrastructure, server hosting, or developer-facing platforms
Strong understanding of APIs, distributed systems, and backend architecture
Familiarity with concepts like containerization (Docker), orchestration, and hosting control panels
Background in computer science or prior experience as an engineer, sysadmin, or technical lead
Comfort getting your hands dirty with SQL, APIs, or scripts to answer your own questions
Experience with tools like ClickUp, Jira, Figma, and analytics platforms such as Grafana, PostHog, or StatSig
Comfort working with operational metrics, incident workflows, and platform reliability concerns
Startup or small-team experience where you wore multiple hats
Salary Description
$90k-$140k based on location & experience
