A DAY IN THE LIFE
As a Senior Engineer – Automation, you'll play a key role in developing innovative automation solutions that improve engineering efficiency, accuracy, and productivity across utility-scale renewable energy projects. You'll independently design, develop, and maintain engineering tools, custom software, scripts, data pipelines, and AI-enabled workflows that streamline design, estimating, and project engineering processes.
A typical day may involve collaborating with civil, structural, geotechnical, electrical, and electrical studies teams to identify opportunities for automation, solve complex technical challenges, and develop tools that simplify engineering workflows. You'll lead automation initiatives from concept through deployment, working closely with cross-functional teams to integrate new technologies, improve data accuracy, reduce manual processes, and enhance engineering quality.
STEP INTO THE ROLE
Independently automates existing engineering workflows to support project design, estimating, and project execution, increasing the quality of engineering designs and proposals.
Develops and maintains assigned tools and applications end-to-end, following the team’s development standards, version control (e.g., Git), and code-review practices.
Partners with disciplined engineers to translate engineering, estimating, and proposal needs into well-scoped technical requirements and sound solution designs; builds tools for new design processes.
Interfaces with data pipelines, APIs, databases, and system integrations that move project, design, quantity, and cost data reliably between engineering, estimating, and business systems.
Implements AI and machine learning capabilities, including large language model (LLM) workflows, document review, and data extraction that increase efficiency.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience is required, including two (2) years of code-writing experience.
Must have a valid Driver’s License.
Minimal travel required.
WHAT SETS YOU APART
Experience in mentoring or providing technical guidance to junior engineers or developers is preferred.
Experience automating engineering, design, or estimating workflows is preferred.
Previous engineering or construction-related experience in a related industry (e.g., heavy civil, industrial, utilities, power generation) is preferred; renewables-focused experience is a plus.
Experience developing engineering automation tools, custom software, scripts, and data-driven solutions that improve efficiency and accuracy.
Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, C#, or similar languages, with experience integrating engineering software and automating technical workflows.
