The Reservoir candidate will help convert subsurface understanding into free cash flow generation from Marcellus and Utica unconventional shale assets as part of the Reservoir and Asset Management team. Primary responsibilities include reservoir analysis and well performance evaluation, type curve and decline model development, DCA/RTA/PTA/DFIT interpretation, spacing and completion optimization, economic evaluation, field development planning, and support of the annual SEC-compliant reserves process. The Reservoir candidate works closely with geology, land, operations, midstream, finance, and corporate reserves. The candidate must be flexible, detail-oriented, ambitious, self-starter and prepared to work for an organization with a large and diverse asset base.
Note: Depending on the candidate’s qualifications and experience, this position may be filled at the Senior Engineer, Advisor, or Manager level; higher levels carry broader technical leadership and, at the Manager level, responsibility for leading and developing the reservoir engineering team.
Target Responsibilities:
• Perform decline curve analysis, rate transient analysis, pressure transient analysis, DFIT interpretation, and other reservoir engineering techniques to evaluate performance; translate findings into spacing, completion stage design, and production management guidance to maximize free cash flow.• Perform economic analysis, sensitivities, and capital ranking, including quality control.• Develop, maintain, and apply type curves, decline models, and economic evaluations consistent with forecast methodology, reserves controls, and technical standards.• Support integrated development planning for Marcellus and Utica assets, including inventory life, development pacing, portfolio optimization, and capital ranking.• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate geologic, geophysical, and petrophysical data into reservoir models.• Analyze the effects of pressure dependent permeability on ultimate recovery; optimize drawdown strategy based on pricing environment.• Evaluate parent/child interaction and frac-hit impacts, and recommend mitigation strategies, lateral spacing, and landing targets.• Integrate geological, geophysical, operational, and financial data into reserves and resource assessments.• Develop and update reservoir models, leverage simulation and analytics, to support production forecasting, reserve estimation, and decision-making.• Support the annual SEC-compliant reserves process, including Year-end Reserves reporting, third-party audit communication, quarterly reconciliations, and reserves-based lending engineering reviews, with reserves classifications aligned to SEC regulations, SPE-PRMS, and internal governance standards.• Benchmark well and asset performance against internal metrics and peer operators.• Work with broader team using available public/private data to determine land acquisition targets for future development, and provide technical diligence on A&D opportunities, inventory quality, and commercial fit.• Work closely with field operations teams to optimize well completions and production strategies.• Utilize data analytics platforms, such as Spotfire, to analyze large datasets and identify trends, correlations, and opportunities for improvement in well performance.• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers and geoscientists.• Stay up to date with industry advancements, best practices, and emerging technologies relevant to reservoir engineering.
Minimum Requirements:
• B.S. in Engineering (Petroleum or related)• Minimum of 5 years of E&P reservoir engineering experience with a focus on unconventional shale gas.• Working knowledge of (demonstrated expertise expected at the Advisor and Manager levels):o Type curve creation, DCA, RTA, PTA, DFIT design/interpretation.o Shale development: spacing/stacking, parent/child risk mitigation, frac-hit diagnostics, landing target selection, completion…
