The ERP Business Systems Manager is the accountable internal owner for planning, implementing, standardizing, and supporting the company’s ERP and connected business applications across multiple business units, entities, and branch locations. The role leads ERP deployments and migrations from discovery through stabilization, owns configuration and data standards, and turns each implementation into a repeatable template for future rollouts and acquisitions.
This is a hands-on leadership role. The Manager directs a team of ERP Business Systems Analysts, manages implementation and integration partners against signed SOWs, partners with Finance and Operations leaders on process standardization, and drives each project through the CBX gate-review methodology—discovery, design, configure/build, SIT, UAT, cutover, and hypercare. After go-live, the role owns ERP platforms as production business systems: support, release management, enhancements, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate combines ERP implementation leadership, working accounting knowledge, vendor and contract discipline, and the judgment to balance enterprise standards with justified business-unit needs.
Responsibilities
ERP Program Delivery & Governance
Own internal delivery of assigned ERP implementations, upgrades, and migrations in partnership with the IT Program Manager; maintain integrated plans, resource loading, RAID logs, and decision logs.
Run gate reviews (requirements, build complete, SIT complete, UAT/training complete, go-live) and prepare go/no-go recommendations for the CIO and business sponsors.
Report status, risks, budget, and benefits to the ERP Steering Committee and Technology Steering Committee; escalate dependencies early.
Build and maintain a reusable ERP deployment playbook—templates, checklists, cutover runbooks, and lessons learned—so each wave is faster and lower-risk than the last.
Standards, Configuration & Process Ownership
Define and govern “gold standard” ERP templates: entity/branch structure, chart of accounts mapping and financial dimensions, security roles, naming conventions, master data rules, and standard configuration.
Partner with business process owners to standardize core processes (Quote/Order-to-Cash, Procure-to-Pay, Project/Job Costing, Inventory, Record-to-Report) and maintain SOPs aligned to the L1–L3 process hierarchy.
Run a controlled exception process: approve, document, or reject deviations from the standard; protect against unnecessary customization
Partner with Infrastructure and Security on hosting, environments (prod/test/training), SSO/MFA, backup, and disaster recovery.
Vendor, SOW & Budget Management
Serve as day-to-day owner of ERP implementation and integration partner relationships; manage delivery against SOW scope, hours, milestones, and deliverable acceptance criteria.
Track consultant hours and spend against budget; enforce written, pre-approved change orders for any scope or fee change.
Support the CIO in software selection, SOW, order-form, and renewal reviews; validate milestones before invoice approval.
Manage vendor support cases and escalations through resolution.
Integrations, Data & Reporting
Own functional requirements and testing for ERP integrations with CRM, quoting/CPQ, estimating, field service, AP automation, banking, payroll, and the enterprise finance platform (e.g., Business Central consolidation).
Define interface monitoring, retry/recovery, and reconciliation standards with integration owners.
Lead data conversion: source-system inventory, cleansing, mapping, mock conversion cycles, validation, and sign-off by data owners.
Ensure ERP data supports consolidated financial and operational reporting in Power BI and the enterprise data platform.
Testing, Cutover & Stabilization
Own test strategy for each deployment: unit, SIT, and UAT scripts covering end-to-end business flows.
Enforce SIT/UAT entry and exit criteria; manage defect triage and severity through closure.
