About Us
Dyson is a global technology enterprise focused on redefining industries through innovation and cutting-edge technology. As part of our Electrical Power Systems team, we develop advanced Battery Management Systems (BMS) for Dyson’s battery-operated consumer electronics products, ensuring high reliability, safety, and performance. If you’re passionate about firmware, embedded systems, and driving new technologies, this role offers you the opportunity to leave a lasting impact on Dyson’s future innovations.
About the Role
As a Lead Firmware Engineer – Battery Management Systems, you will lead the design, development, validation, and implementation of BMS firmware and software for Dyson’s consumer electronics products. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, hardware, software, quality, and test professionals, you’ll contribute across the full product lifecycle—spanning EVT (Engineering Validation Test), DVT (Design Validation Test), and PVT (Production Validation Test) phases.
This role demands hands-on technical expertise in BMS firmware development, safety-critical software, and cross-functional collaboration across borders.
Key Responsibilities
Architect and develop robust battery management system firmware for high-performance consumer electronics.
Implement low-level drivers, middleware, and application layers on microcontrollers for battery systems using protocols like SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, ADC , and DMA .
Design algorithms for State of Charge (SOC) and State of Health (SOH) calculations, battery cell balancing, fault diagnostics, and event handling.
Comply with international standards such as ISO 26262 , IEC 62133 , and UL 1642 for functional safety, reliability, and quality.
Define and execute verification and validation strategies , ensuring product compliance with performance, safety, and reliability standards.
Lead functional, environmental, and durability testing for BMS software across EVT, DVT, and PVT phases.
Conduct in-depth failure analysis , root-cause investigation, and design optimization during validation cycles.
Work closely with software, hardware, mechanical design, quality, and test teams to ensure system integration and product readiness.
Collaborate with cell suppliers and equipment vendors to optimize testing tools, methodologies, and system validation.
Mentor engineers in software development, testing protocols, and project execution to nurture technical expertise and professional development.
Drive collaboration and knowledge-sharing initiatives, fostering consistency across Dyson’s global engineering teams.
About You
To excel in this role, you’ll need a combination of strong technical expertise, leadership ability, and innovation. You’ll thrive in fast-paced and challenging environments, leveraging your skills in embedded systems firmware development and cross-functional collaborations.
