Project UG Geologist
Sukari is located approximately 750km from Cairo and 25km from Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. First gold was poured in June 2009 and commercial production began in April 2010, making Sukari the first modern gold mine in Egypt, a country which in ancient times was a prolific producer of the precious metal. Sukari conducts both open-pit and underground mining operations, each employing specialised mining methods tailored to the orebody characteristics and operational requirements.
The Role
The role supports underground production through geological oversight, drilling supervision, ore control, reporting, and data management.
The role also provides technical training and mentoring to mine geologists and technicians, while acting as a link between management and subordinate staff. It requires close coordination with mining teams, laboratory personnel, and drill contractors to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant geological and production activities.
Location: Egypt
Contract Type: Permanent
Roaster: 20 weeks/10 weeks
The Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety and Environment: Ensure all daily geology and drilling activities are carried out safely, promote HSE awareness, report incidents, assist with root cause investigations, and support the development of JSA and SOP documents.
Drilling Operations Management: Participate in short- and long-term drilling planning, design and supervise drill hole programs, document drilling geology data, and monitor progress against deadlines and targets.
Production Support: Supervise mine production geologists, ensure RC drill plans and sample submissions align with the mining schedule, and make geological information available for optimal stope extraction.
Ore Control and Reconciliation: Support grade control drilling readiness, closely manage ore modelling and ore mining processes, and minimise ore loss and dilution within acceptable limits.
Reporting and Documentation: Generate geological data for resource statements in accordance with NI 43-101, write monthly geological reports, document deposit geology, and maintain up-to-date production reporting systems and SOPs.
Administration and Coordination: Ensure geological work is correctly documented and stored, support junior staff with administration matters, and monitor drill contract implementation and required submissions.
Training and Leadership: Train and mentor junior geologists, RC geologists, technicians, and other subordinate personnel across production geology, resource modelling, ore mining, bulk density determination, and reconciliation studies.
