Position Summary:
The Herff Jones IT Team is seeking a Cloud Engineer to join our Infrastructure Services team. This role is the technical owner of our AWS and Azure environments and the bridge between our on-premises datacenter and the cloud: the person who builds the foundation, keeps it secure, well-governed, and resilient, and drives it forward. The Cloud Engineer provides and governs the cloud environment that implementation partners build in during a major infrastructure modernization initiative, supports the systems hosted there, and builds and maintains the cloud resources for work outside that initiative. In the near term, the role also shares support of our Windows and Linux server infrastructure. The Cloud Engineer is one of six engineers on our Infrastructure Services team, each with a complementary specialty, who share support, cross-coverage, and an on-call rotation, and partners closely with the Security and Application teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Cloud Architecture & Engineering
Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable infrastructure in AWS and Azure, including compute, storage, networking, serverless, and container services.
Establish and maintain cloud landing zones, including account and subscription structure, guardrails, tagging, and governance aligned with the AWS Well-Architected Framework and Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework.
Build and maintain cloud infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Bicep) with source control and CI/CD pipelines, and automate routine tasks using PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
Develop and maintain cloud standards, reference architectures, and documentation, including diagrams and configuration baselines.
Contribute to the multi-year infrastructure roadmap for the cloud and hybrid domain.
Hybrid Infrastructure & Partner Support
Design and maintain secure hybrid connectivity and DNS between on-premises sites and AWS and Azure (e.g., site-to-site VPN, AWS Direct Connect, Azure ExpressRoute), in partnership with network engineering.
Provide and govern the cloud environment that implementation partners build in, ensuring the underlying infrastructure aligns with our security and governance standards and best practices.
Troubleshoot and support partner-built systems hosted in our environment, and build and maintain cloud resources for initiatives outside the partner engagement.
Share support of on-premises Windows and Linux server infrastructure with other Infrastructure engineers in the near term, including patching, lifecycle management, and troubleshooting.
Support workload migrations and the operational handoff of partner-delivered infrastructure, including runbooks, monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery.
Cloud Security & Governance
Implement cloud security controls, including IAM, least-privilege access, encryption, logging, and policy enforcement, in partnership with the Security team.
Integrate cloud platforms with enterprise identity (Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, AWS IAM Identity Center) in partnership with other Infrastructure engineers.
Monitor and optimize cloud spend through rightsizing, reserved capacity, and cost reporting, and support budget…
