About InterDigital
InterDigital is a global research and development company focused primarily on wireless, video, artificial intelligence (“AI”), and related technologies. We design and develop foundational technologies that enable connected, immersive experiences in a broad range of communications and entertainment products and services. We license our innovations worldwide to companies providing such products and services, including makers of wireless communications devices, consumer electronics, IoT devices, cars and other motor vehicles, and providers of cloud-based services such as video streaming. As a leader in wireless technology, our engineers have designed and developed a wide range of innovations that are used in wireless products and networks, from the earliest digital cellular systems to 5G and today’s most advanced Wi-Fi technologies. We are also a leader in video processing and video encoding/decoding technology, with a significant AI research effort that intersects with both wireless and video technologies.
Founded in 1972, InterDigital is listed on Nasdaq.

Summary
Hybrid implicit neural representations (INR) compress images by combining learnable feature grids with lightweight neural networks. The grids capture spatial information at multiple resolutions, while a compact network transforms these features into pixel values. Both components are jointly optimized for each image to balance bitrate and reconstruction quality. The resulting latent features and network parameters are quantized and encoded into a compressed bitstream. During decoding, the features are recovered and processed by the network to reconstruct the image. This approach enables efficient image reconstruction with low decoding complexity, at the cost of more computationally intensive encoding.
The objective of this internship is to investigate warmup phases that are used prior the real encoding. This phase aims to start the encoding in the best condition. Starting from an existing framework, the intern will explore how to adapt and tailor the warmup phases to the specific image to encode.
The proposed methods will be evaluated in terms of rate-distortion performance, rendering quality, retraining complexity, and encoding time.
You will be working in the SympAI team, in the New Media Codecs Group of the Video Lab.
