The Role
Your role
As a Mainframe DB2 DBA Support Systems Administrator, you’ll help keep critical DB2 for z/OS database environments secure, resilient and performing at their best. You’ll combine hands-on database administration with problem-solving and continuous improvement, supporting the systems that customers rely on while helping them evolve within increasingly integrated, hybrid IT environments.
You’ll be working across the DB2 lifecycle, from installation, configuration and upgrades to performance optimisation, recovery and ongoing operational health. When complex issues arise, you’ll investigate what is happening, identify the underlying cause and work with application and infrastructure teams to restore service and prevent repeat incidents.
This is also an opportunity to look beyond day-to-day support. You’ll use your knowledge of DB2 and the wider z/OS environment to identify opportunities to improve reliability, capacity and operational efficiency. You’ll work with application teams on database design and SQL performance, automate repeatable administration activities and help ensure database environments are ready for both current workloads and future change.
What you will do
Run resilient DB2 environments
Own database health: Administer DB2 for z/OS environments and monitor performance, availability and capacity to keep critical services running reliably
Manage the lifecycle: Carry out DB2 installation, configuration, maintenance, migration and upgrade activities, including supporting database objects and associated infrastructure
Protect critical data: Execute and maintain backup, recovery and disaster recovery processes that support service resilience and business continuity
Solve and optimise
Find and fix: Diagnose database incidents and performance issues, complete root cause analysis and implement improvements that reduce the risk of recurrence
Improve performance: Analyse SQL, access paths, buffer pools and database utilisation to identify practical performance and capacity improvements
Support applications: Partner with application teams on database design reviews, SQL tuning and troubleshooting to help applications perform effectively
Improve how we operate
Automate administration: Use REXX, JCL and scripting to simplify repeatable operational activities, monitoring and health checks
Maintain control: Manage DB2 security, authorisations and auditing, working with relevant teams to support compliant and well-controlled database environments
Your Future at Kyndryl
