Our people enjoy solving interesting technical challenges in a culture where everyone trusts each other to do the right thing. For you, working with us can mean deeper job satisfaction, better rewards, and a great quality of life inside and outside of work.
Job Title :
Sr. Software Engineer
Reporting To:
Management, Design Engineering
Work Schedule:
Onsite – Phoenix, AZ Mission & Impact
At Moog we design and manufacture innovative systems and components for commercial and government spacecraft, missiles, and launch vehicles. For future space missions, Moog is investing in next-generation orbital maneuvering vehicles, radiation-hardened avionics, propulsion test facilities, and metal additive manufacturing. Join a team that designs, develops, tests, and maintains the specialized hardware, and systems used to support and validate spacecraft avionics, or launch vehicles on the ground.
If you bring strong hardware and software experience to the test engineering design process and enjoy the challenge of solving complex problems, we would welcome, you to apply. See your work directly contribute to mission readiness and customer success.
What You’ll Do
Lead Projects: Own the end-to-end testing strategy, planning, and execution for complex electrical systems.
Design Test Systems: Architect custom test fixtures, test benches, or PCB-level interfaces to evaluate devices under test (DUT).
Define Requirements and Scope Analyze the DUT (Device Under Test): Study product specifications, interfaces, and functional requirements. Identify Measurements: List all parameters, signals, and performance metrics that need testing, along with the required measurement accuracy and tolerance. Avoid over-designing accuracy relative to the product itself. Set Constraints & Budget: Establish the financial budget, development timeline, and operational footprint (e.g., rack-mount vs. benchtop).
Design the Test Strategy and Architecture Determine Test Levels: Decide how testing breaks down into unit, integration, and system-level validation. Select Instrumentation: Choose analog and digital instruments (such as DMMs, oscilloscopes, or RF analyzers) based on bandwidth, resolution, and bus architectures like PXI, USB, or Ethernet. Plan Switching and Fixturing: Design mechanical interfaces, mass interconnect systems, or custom test fixtures to route signals safely between the DUT and your instruments.
Plan Hardware and Software Abstraction Software Abstraction Layers: Use hardware and measurement abstraction layers so device-specific driver code is decoupled from your main test sequences.
Performance Measurement & Validation Collect quantified test data, log failure modes, and build documentation packages
Schematic & Fixture Design Draft test systems or harness layouts using tools like Visio or Excel. Ability to read, interpret, and trace the technical blueprints of a printed circuit board (PCB)
