About PUM
PUM is a unique NGO based in The Hague. Our mission is to strengthen business ecosystems and create lasting economic, social and environmental impact. We actively support women's and youth entrepreneurship and employment. We are active in 26 countries across the Global South, with 12 programmes. Our 1,200 volunteer experts share their knowledge and expertise with ambitious entrepreneurs in small and medium-sized enterprises and the business organisations that support them. We believe in the power of collaboration and the magic that happens when diverse perspectives come together. Together, we grow!
PUM is developing rapidly, with ambitious plans to increase our global impact. With a new team of country managers and programme managers and a strong partnership strategy, we are building the future of our organisation. That is why we are looking for a new business developer to strengthen our team and help expand our network of partners and donors. Do you understand how foundations and companies think, and what moves them to invest in impact? Do you enjoy turning a first conversation into a lasting partnership? And do you get energy from building something new, with both a strategic view and a hands-on attitude? Then this is your opportunity! We are looking for a
Business Developer Institutional Funding (32 – 37.5 hours)
The role
As Business Developer Institutional Funding, you make sure PUM secures a place in large, multi-year programmes in multiple countries, funded by institutional donors. Our strength lies in strengthening programmes by sharing knowledge as a practical implementing partner. Your task is to make sure PUM is at the table early, when consortia are formed and propositions are developed. This is a new role that gives you plenty of room to further develop and shape fundraising within PUM. You help build a solid foundation and create opportunities to increase our impact. That calls for someone who knows the consortium landscape, its players and how processes run, and who combines strategic insight with practical execution: you spot opportunities, bring the right people together and are experienced in writing winning proposals. Your key responsibilities:
Mapping the institutional funding landscape and positioning PUM with relevant NGOs, international organisations and other potential consortium partners, so that we are involved early in consortium building.
Monitoring donor strategies, policy developments and upcoming funding rounds and tenders, including in the countries where we work, such as funding through embassies. • Building and maintaining relationships with institutional donors and consortium partners, and developing propositions together with them.
Advising on new opportunities and assessing strategically which partnerships fit PUM's longterm strategy.
Leading the internal process from first idea to submission: bringing country managers, programme managers and the Project Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning team together, agreeing on roles and planning, and ensuring high-quality proposals that are submitted on time.
Writing proposals yourself, fully or in part, and critically reviewing the work of others.
Building and managing a pipeline of opportunities and reporting on progress to the Managing Director.
Working closely with the Business Developer Foundations & Corporate Partnerships, especially where both fields meet, such as large international foundations.
Contributing to a stronger fundraising culture within PUM, including by working together with the new team of country and programme managers and our network of 1,200 volunteer experts.
What you bring
You are driven by PUM's mission and have at least five years of experience in business development and acquisition in the field of institutional funding, for example in collaboration with international NGOs or knowledge institutes.
