Step into this AgriTech Platform Developer role and build something that matters in AgriTech.
UK farming is under pressure to produce more with less land, less labour and tighter margins, and the software behind that shift is where the real work happens now.
This growing SME builds digital tools for the agricultural sector and needs someone who can turn field-level data into decisions that actually help growers.
The business has outgrown its startup phase but kept the pace.
You'd be joining at a point where the platform is established enough to matter and young enough that your decisions still shape it.
Here's what you'll be doing: Build and maintain features across the AgriTech platform, from data ingestion through to the dashboards growers and agronomists rely on daily Work with sensor, satellite and weather data feeds, and write the integration code that keeps them reliable Fix bugs in production, trace root causes, and ship the fix without breaking something else downstream Collaborate with agronomists and product staff to translate farming requirements into working software Write tests and documentation so the next developer, including future you, isn't left guessing Take part in code reviews and contribute to decisions on architecture as the platform scales Here are the skills you'll need: Solid commercial experience building and shipping web applications, ideally 2-4 years Comfortable across backend and frontend work, with strong fundamentals in at least one modern language or framework Experience working with APIs, databases and data pipelines at a reasonable scale Genuine curiosity about AgriTech or a willingness to learn fast, this isn't a sector you can fake Clear communicator.
You'll need to explain technical trade-offs to people who aren't developers Comfortable owning a problem from investigation through to a working, tested solution Key perks and benefits: Salary of £35,000 to £54,500, depending on experience Hybrid working, split between home and the Birmingham office Private medical insurance and pension contribution Annual leave allowance with flexible working built in, not bolted on Bonus scheme and genuine professional development support, not just a line in the handbook Why pursue a career in AgriTech?
Food security, climate pressure and labour shortages aren't going away, which means AgriTech isn't a passing trend, it's infrastructure.
Birmingham has quietly become a sensible base for this work, close to the farming heartlands it serves but with the tech talent pool of a major city.
Get in as a mid-level developer now and the progression into senior and specialist roles tends to come quickly, because the sector is still working out what good looks like.
