Step into this AgriTech Software Engineer role and build something that matters in AgriTech.
Australian farming runs on tighter margins and tighter weather windows than it did a decade ago, and the software behind it has to keep up.
This SME has spent years building tools that help growers make better calls with less guesswork, and it's grown steadily off the back of that work rather than a single big bet.
The next hire joins a team that already knows what it's doing and still has room for someone to shape how things get built.
Here's what you'll be doing: Build and maintain software features that process field, sensor and yield data for AgriTech clients Write clean, tested code and review pull requests from colleagues across the engineering team Work with product and agronomy staff to turn vague farm problems into clear technical specs Debug production issues on live systems, often while a customer is mid-harvest and can't wait Improve existing services for performance and reliability as data volumes grow Document your work so the next engineer, maybe a junior one, can pick it up without you Here are the skills you'll need: A few years' commercial experience building backend or full-stack software, ideally with some exposure to data-heavy or IoT systems Solid grounding in at least one modern language (Python, Java or similar) and comfort with SQL Working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) and CI/CD pipelines Ability to explain a technical trade-off to someone who isn't technical, without talking down to them Curiosity about agriculture itself.
You don't need a farming background, but you should want one eventually Comfortable owning a problem end to end rather than waiting to be told the next step Key perks and benefits: A$45,500 to A$67,500 depending on experience, plus a bonus scheme Hybrid working, with the flexibility to split time between home and the Brisbane office Private medical insurance and pension contribution Annual leave allowance with flexible working built in, not bolted on Genuine progression path within a company that's grown steadily rather than chasing hype Why pursue a career in AgriTech?
Food production has to scale against climate pressure and shrinking farmland, and software is one of the few levers that actually moves that needle.
Brisbane has become a real base for this kind of work, close enough to the agricultural regions that feed it and the tech talent that builds for it.
Get in as a mid-level engineer now and the trajectory, both in skills and in seniority, tends to be quick.
