An exceptional opportunity for a senior DV Cleared Software Developer to shape the future of Defence & Government in Chicago.
Defence and government technology programmes run on trust as much as code, and that means clearance-holding engineers are in short supply everywhere, Chicago included.
This is an established SME, growing steadily rather than chasing headlines, building software that sits at the centre of sensitive Defence & Government programmes.
The business has the structure of a mature organisation but still moves fast enough that a good developer can shape how things get built, not just follow someone else's spec.
You'll be joining a team that treats security clearance as table stakes, not a tick-box exercise.
The work is real, the stakes are real, and the role is based in the company's Chicago office full time.
Here's what you'll be doing: Design, build and maintain software systems supporting live Defence & Government programmes, from initial architecture through to deployment Write clean, well-tested code and review the work of colleagues to keep standards high across the team Translate programme requirements into technical solutions, working closely with systems engineers and programme leads Troubleshoot and resolve issues across the stack, including in environments with strict access and audit controls Document technical decisions clearly enough that someone else could pick up your work in six months Contribute to planning and estimation for upcoming development cycles Here are the skills you'll need: Active DV clearance, or clearable to that level, is essential for this DV Cleared Software Developer role Solid commercial experience building software in a professional setting, ideally within Defence & Government or another regulated sector Strong grasp of at least one modern programming language, with the judgement to know when a simple solution beats a clever one Comfort working within structured processes and documentation standards typical of defence programmes Clear communication skills.
You'll need to explain technical trade-offs to people who aren't engineers A collaborative mindset.
This isn't a lone-wolf role Key perks and benefits: Salary of $67,500 to $87,500, reflecting the seniority and clearance level this DV Cleared Software Developer role demands Private medical insurance and a company pension contribution Generous annual leave plus flexible working within an office-based structure Genuine professional development support, including training tied to clearance renewal and technical growth A defined role with clear scope for progression as the company continues to grow Why pursue a career in Defence & Government?
Defence & Government work doesn't follow the boom-and-bust cycle of most tech sectors.
Budgets are long-term, programmes span years, and demand for cleared engineers keeps climbing as systems modernise.
Chicago has a growing cluster of defence and government contractors, which makes it a sound base for anyone who wants clearance-backed experience that travels well across the industry.
Good people with the right clearance rarely struggle to find their next move.
