Make your mark as a SC Cleared Programme Manager in the Defence & Government sector, based in Sheffield.
Defence programmes don't forgive drift.
Budgets, security clearances and delivery timelines all have to line up, and the organisations that get it right win long-term contracts that shape national infrastructure for years.
This role sits inside an established enterprise player in Defence & Government, a business of 250+ people with structured career paths and large-scale programmes already in motion.
You'd be joining at a point where the work is real, not theoretical.
Here's what you'll be doing: Lead multi-workstream delivery across Defence & Government programmes, keeping scope, budget and schedule aligned with contractual commitments Manage relationships with senior stakeholders, including government clients, ensuring reporting is accurate and timely Own risk and issue logs for your programmes, escalating early and resolving before they become delivery problems Coordinate cross-functional teams, including engineers, analysts and subcontractors, to keep output moving to plan Apply established governance frameworks consistently, so every programme under your remit meets internal and client assurance standards Produce clear programme documentation, including status reports, financial forecasts and change control records Here are the skills you'll need: Active SC clearance, or current eligibility and willingness to undergo SC clearance Proven programme management experience within Defence & Government or a similarly regulated sector Working knowledge of formal methodologies (MSP, PRINCE2 or equivalent) and how to apply them practically, not just on paper Strong financial literacy.
You'll need to read a budget, spot a variance, and explain both to a client without flinching Confident stakeholder management across technical and non-technical audiences Calm under pressure.
Defence timelines move, and good programme managers adjust without losing control of the plan Key perks and benefits: Salary of £48,500 to £69,500, depending on experience Hybrid working, with flexibility to split time between home and the Sheffield office Private medical and dental insurance for you and your family Enhanced pension scheme on top of performance-based bonuses A comprehensive benefits package built for long-term careers, not short stints Why pursue a career in Defence & Government?
Government investment in defence infrastructure isn't slowing down, and programme managers who can prove delivery against real security constraints are in short supply.
Sheffield has quietly become a serious base for this kind of work, with strong transport links and a growing cluster of engineering and public sector employers.
Progress here tends to be structured rather than accidental: clear the right programmes, and the next grade up is usually a conversation away.
