We are currently looking for three new members to join our Data Engineering team. Depending on your experience and skills, you can join us at Junior, Mid or Senior level.
As a Data Engineer at VELUX, you design, build and maintain the data pipelines and data models that teams across the company depend on to run the business. You also work directly with the business teams that use what you build.
Meet your future team:
Our team is based across Warsaw and Hørsholm and consists of 8 members. We work in English and are an international, open-minded and results-driven team that embraces change. We value open and direct communication, transparency and collaboration. We keep communication focused, practical and to the point.
Your responsibilities:
At VELUX, we are moving away from a centralised data model towards an approach where data ownership is embedded across the business. Teams in Sales, Marketing, Supply & Operations and other areas are taking responsibility for their own data products, following the standards and guidelines defined and maintained by our team. This approach is known as data mesh.
The data pipelines and source data you will be responsible for form the foundation on which these teams build and develop their data products.
Our data platform, Reflect, is built on Snowflake and dbt. We use GitHub for version control, pull request reviews and CI/CD, while Prefect and Azure Data Factory support our data ingestion processes. Our engineers also work with AI coding agents such as Claude Code and Codex as part of their everyday workflow.
In this role, you will:
Design, build and maintain in Prefect reliable data pipelines from source systems incl. databases, APIs and external data providers
Build data products in Snowflake with dbt, from the staging layer to the reporting models that the business uses. Tests, documentation and freshness checks are part of this work
Find and correct pipeline failures, test failures and performance problems, and reduce the number of repeat failures
Build your data products inside our common framework. Contribute to the framework proposing changes to established standards and innovating the way we are delivering data platform to business domains in the data mesh approach
Review pull requests and documentation from colleagues and from developers in the business domains
Take ownership of the workstreams in our 2027 roadmap
What you will bring to the organization:
Advanced SQL and Python skills
Production experience with dbt or a similar data engineering tool
Full fluency in spoken and written English
Good communication skills
The following would be an advantage:
Daily experience working with a cloud data warehouse such as Snowflake or an equivalent platform
Production experience with dbt, including an understanding of models, layers, tests and metadata
Production experience with Prefect, including an understanding of schedules, retries, backfills and the analysis of failed runs
Experience working with non-engineers who build and deliver their own data solutions, for example, analysts who write their own queries or reports
Experience identifying manual tasks in data engineering workflows and automating them
Experience with AI coding environments such as Claude Code or Codex
