We are currently looking for three new members to join our Data Engineering team. Depending on your experience and skills, you can join us at Junior, Mid or Senior level.
As a Junior Data Engineer at VELUX, you will help ensure that our data pipelines run reliably and bring new data sources into our platform. You will investigate and troubleshoot issues, identify their root causes and implement fixes. You will also build the first layer of data models on top of the sources you connect.
This role is a great fit for someone who is curious, analytical and enjoys understanding why something goes wrong rather than simply fixing the symptoms.
Meet your future team:
Our team is based across Warsaw and Hørsholm and consists of 8 members. We work in English and are an international, open-minded and results-driven team that embraces change. We value open and direct communication, transparency and collaboration. We keep communication focused, practical and to the point.
Your responsibilities:
At VELUX, we are moving away from a centralised data model towards an approach where data ownership is embedded across the business. Teams in Sales, Marketing, Supply & Operations and other areas are taking responsibility for their own data products, following the standards and guidelines defined and maintained by our team. This approach is known as data mesh.
The data pipelines and source data you will be responsible for form the foundation on which these teams build and develop their data products.
Our data platform, Reflect, is built on Snowflake and dbt. We use GitHub for version control, pull request reviews and CI/CD, while Prefect and Azure Data Factory support our data ingestion processes. Our engineers also work with AI coding agents such as Claude Code and Codex as part of their everyday workflow.
Monitor the data pipelines, investigate failed runs and failing tests, and correct the defects you find
Run backfills and reprocessing when source data arrives late or changes
Reduce the number of repeat failures by finding and removing the cause
Build new source connections in Prefect incl. databases, APIs and external data providers
Build the staging models in Snowflake with dbt on top of the sources you connect. Tests, documentation and freshness checks are part of this work
Review pull requests and documentation from colleagues
Take ownership of a workstream in our 2027 roadmap, with a senior colleague to support you
What you will bring into the organization:
Good working knowledge of SQL and Python.
Hands-on experience working with real-world data in a professional environment. This could be through an internship, a first job or a project involving real production data, rather than tutorials or bootcamps.
Full professional proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
The following would be an advantage:
Some experience with a cloud data warehouse, such as Snowflake or an equivalent platform.
Familiarity with dbt or another data transformation tool.
Some experience with a data orchestration tool, such as Prefect.
Experience working with Git, pull requests and code reviews in a team environment.
Familiarity with AI-powered coding environments, such as Claude Code or Codex.
